Activating keys on GOG, Ubisoft Connect, EA app, Battle.net and Rockstar

Where to enter a code in each of the major publisher launchers, and why a game bought on Steam sometimes asks for a second account.

Steam and the Epic Games Store are not the only places a PC key can belong. Several publishers run their own launchers, and a key labelled for one of them can only be redeemed there. This guide covers where to enter a code in each one we sell keys for, and one source of confusion that catches out a lot of people: games that use two launchers at once.

The platform a key belongs to is shown as a badge on every product card and on the product page. If the badge says GOG, the key goes into GOG, and so on.

GOG

GOG keys can be redeemed on the web. Go to gog.com/redeem, sign in, enter the code and confirm. You can also use the GOG Galaxy app, which has a redeem option in the menu used for adding games.

Games on GOG are generally sold without copy protection, so once a game is in your account you can download its offline installer from your library as well as installing it through GOG Galaxy.

Ubisoft Connect

  1. Open the Ubisoft Connect app on your PC and sign in.
  2. Open the menu in the top-left corner.
  3. Choose Activate product and enter the key.

Ubisoft occasionally renames items in the app. If the option is not where you expect, look in the same menu for anything that mentions a key or code.

EA app

  1. Open the EA app and sign in with your EA account.
  2. Open the menu (the three lines in the top-left corner).
  3. Choose Redeem code and enter the key.

The game is added to your EA app library, where you can install it.

Battle.net

  1. Open the Battle.net desktop app and sign in.
  2. Select your account name in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose Redeem a Code and enter the key.

Blizzard accounts have a home region, and some codes only work on accounts from a particular one, so check the product page's activation details before you buy.

Rockstar Games Launcher

Sign in to the Rockstar Games Launcher and look for the option to activate a product in the launcher's settings, under your account details. The game is then added to the launcher's library. Note that some Rockstar titles are sold for Steam or Epic instead. In that case the badge will say Steam or Epic, and you redeem it there.

Games that use two launchers

Some games sold on Steam or the Epic Games Store are published by Ubisoft, EA or Rockstar. You buy and activate the key on Steam or Epic as normal, but the first time you start the game it opens the publisher's launcher and asks you to sign in or create an account there.

This is expected and does not mean anything is wrong with the key. The publisher simply links your account with them to the store you bought from. After that first sign-in, the game starts from either launcher.

It matters in one situation: if a product says Steam but you were hoping to play it entirely within the publisher's own launcher, you will still need a Steam account, because that is where the key is redeemed.

Region requirements

Each of these launchers ties an account to a country. Where a product has a region-specific activation requirement, our product page shows it next to the price. See region-specific activation explained for how to read it.

If a key is rejected, take a screenshot and email [email protected] with your order number. Our guide on what to do if a key does not activate lists what to include.
