PlayStation Store codes are redeemed against your PlayStation Network account. A code is usually 12 characters long, written as three groups of four, and it can be entered on a console or through the PlayStation Store website. Either way the content ends up on the account, so you can redeem on the web and download on your console later.
Check your account's country first
Every PlayStation Network account belongs to a country, chosen when the account was created. Sony does not let you change that country afterwards. Codes for the PlayStation Store generally work only on accounts from the matching store region, so this is the one detail to confirm before buying.
If you are not sure which country your account belongs to, you can find it in the account settings on the console or in your account management page on the PlayStation website. Then compare it with the activation details on our product page, which are shown next to the price. Our guide to region-specific activation explains what those details mean.
On a PS5
- Open the PlayStation Store from the home screen.
- Select the More icon (three dots) at the top of the Store screen.
- Choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the code and confirm.
The game or add-on is added to your account. Games can be downloaded from the confirmation screen or later from your Game Library.
On a PS4
- Open the PlayStation Store.
- Scroll to the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side and choose Redeem Codes.
- Enter the code and confirm.
In a web browser
Sign in to the PlayStation Store website, select your avatar at the top of the page and choose Redeem Codes. Enter the code and confirm. If your console is switched on or in rest mode, and set to download automatically, the download may start without you having to touch it.
Add-ons and upgrades
Add-ons, expansions and upgrade packs need the main game on the same account. If a code for an add-on is accepted but nothing seems to happen, open the main game's page in your Game Library and look for the add-on there.
Pay attention to console generation too. Some products are for PS5 only, some for PS4 only and some cover both. The product title on our site usually names the console. If it does not, the game's page on the PlayStation Store will tell you which versions a purchase includes.
Child accounts
Accounts managed by a parent or guardian may have restrictions on redeeming codes or on content ratings. If a code will not redeem on a child account, check the family management settings on the parent account before contacting us.
If the code is rejected
- The code has already been used. If you see this the first time you enter the code, stop and contact us with a photo of the screen.
- The code is not valid. Look for typing errors. Characters such as the letter O and zero are easy to confuse when copying by hand.
- The content is not available in your region. The code does not match your account's country.
Email [email protected] with your order number and a photo or screenshot of the message. See what to do if a key does not activate for everything that helps us resolve it quickly.
You can browse PlayStation titles on the game keys page.
